Ha Tinh is located in northern central Vietnam, at 17054’-18038’ latitude north and 105011’-106036’ longitude east. It borders Nghe An Province to the north, Quang Binh Province to the south, Laos to the west (145km) and the East Sea to the east (137km).

 It occupies a particularly important position and serves as a bridge linking the North and the South of Vietnam with Laos, Thailand and other ASEAN countries.
     
The Province has an area of 6,026.49km2, of which 537,299.3 hectares have been used (including 462,238.7ha for agricultural, forestry, fishery and salt production and 75,060.60ha for non-agricultural purposes). The unused land is 65,350.65ha (including 45,095.15ha of hilly land, 17,508.25ha of flat land and 2,747.25ha of rocky mountains without forests).

Ha Tinh lies in a region of monsoon tropical climate with two distinctive seasons. During the hot and cold seasons, the average temperature of 220C-250C, annual average rainfall is above 2,200mm or 3,500mm in some places and 1,719 sunny hours a year.
